Flight Computer

Navigation and flight planning questions need the same calculations again and again: time, speed and distance, fuel, wind, pressure and density altitude, true airspeed and Mach. This electronic flight computer does them all, and shows how each answer is worked out so you can do it in the exam.

Wind

Heading & groundspeed

The heading to fly and groundspeed for a track, from TAS and the wind (directions true).

How it's calculated
  • Wind correction angle = asin(wind speed × sin(wind direction − track) ÷ TAS)
  • Heading = track + correction (into wind)
  • Groundspeed = TAS × cos(correction) − wind speed × cos(wind direction − track)

How to use it

  1. Pick a function from the menu: flight planning, wind, altitude, airspeed, climb and descent, or conversions.
  2. Type your values. The answer updates as you type.
  3. Open “How it’s calculated” to see the formula and the exam rule of thumb next to the exact answer.
  4. Each function has its own link (for example ?fn=density-altitude) that you can bookmark or share.

For learning and exam practice only. Not for operational flight planning: always use your aircraft’s flight manual, official charts and current weather.
